This project involved the construction of a premium elevated composite deck designed to combine modern outdoor living with practical storage functionality. As a trusted Toronto deck builder, ATBCON installed durable, low-maintenance composite decking boards supported by reinforced structural framing. The perimeter was finished with aluminum glass railing, providing safety while maintaining unobstructed views and a contemporary aesthetic. A fully integrated waterproof system was installed beneath the deck surface, allowing the under-deck area to remain dry and protected. The lower section was then enclosed with smart panel cladding to create a spacious and secure storage area, complete with an access door for everyday usability. A compact staircase provides convenient transition from the deck to the yard, while a custom privacy wall was installed along the neighbour-facing side to enhance comfort and separation without compromising design. The result is a structurally engineered outdoor space that delivers durability, water management, privacy, and functional storage in one cohesive system.

Challenge

Integrating a waterproof system beneath an elevated deck required precise slope control to ensure proper drainage while keeping the under-deck space dry. Enclosing the storage area with smart panel cladding demanded careful framing coordination to maintain ventilation, structural integrity, and clean exterior finishes.

Downtown Backyard Wood Deck with Privacy Screens & Fence Upgrade

This project involved the construction of a custom wooden deck for a downtown Toronto home situated on a narrow urban lot with a compact backyard. Designed to maximize functionality within limited space, the deck provides structured outdoor living while maintaining privacy and accessibility. A side-entry staircase allows access from the front passageway, while a rear staircase with integrated gate provides direct backyard exit. To enhance privacy between closely spaced neighboring properties, privacy screens were installed along both sides of the deck. The rear boundary was enclosed with new fencing, creating a defined and secure outdoor area. Additionally, the left-side property line fence was replaced and upgraded to improve visual consistency and structural integrity alongside the new deck build. The result is a refined urban backyard solution that balances space efficiency, privacy, and durable wood craftsmanship within a tight downtown setting.
