Full Basement Renovation & Finishing with Insulated Subfloor System

Toronto
Completed February 2025

This project involved a complete basement renovation, transforming an unfinished lower-level space into a fully insulated, modern, and functional living area. The existing basement was fully stripped back to the exterior foundation walls. From that point forward, the space was rebuilt with updated systems and improved thermal performance. Structural & Mechanical Upgrades Included: • Full demolition to foundation walls • New framing installation • Electrical system upgrade • Plumbing line updates • Spray/thermal insulation system • Drywall installation and full interior painting Before insulation was installed, all electrical wiring and plumbing infrastructure were upgraded to ensure long-term safety and functionality. After framing and insulation, drywall was installed and finished, followed by a clean modern paint application throughout the space.

Scope

Full basement demolition, framing, electrical and plumbing upgrades, insulation installation, drywall finishing, insulated subfloor system installation, vinyl herringbone flooring, painting, and lighting integration.

Challenge

Coordinating electrical and plumbing upgrades before insulation and drywall required careful sequencing. Installing an insulated subfloor system over concrete demanded precise leveling to prevent future movement while maintaining thermal performance and moisture control.

Result

A fully finished basement featuring upgraded mechanical systems, insulated subfloor technology, modern vinyl herringbone flooring, and a clean contemporary interior — transforming raw space into a comfortable, energy-efficient living area.

Full Bathroom Renovation with Schluter® System, Waterproof Drywall & Tile Upgrade

This project was a complete bathroom renovation from demolition to final finish—rebuilt with professional waterproofing systems and modern materials for long-term durability. The existing bathroom was fully removed, including old fixtures, wall finishes, and tile. The space was then rebuilt using waterproof drywall, followed by a layered waterproofing approach that included RedGard and a Schluter® shower waterproofing and underlayment system to protect the shower area and tiled surfaces from moisture penetration. A brand-new shower system was installed from scratch, including a new shower base, fully waterproofed walls, and new tile finishes. The project also included updated surfaces and finishes throughout—new tiles, upgraded granite elements, and refreshed wall paint—delivering a clean, modern bathroom with high-performance moisture protection. As a contractor serving the Toronto area, ATBCON focuses on build quality behind the tile as much as the design you see—using the right waterproofing sequence and materials to help prevent future leaks, swelling, or long-term water damage.

Basement Bathroom Construction with Below-Grade Plumbing & Schluter Waterproof System

This project involved the full construction of a new basement bathroom in an unfinished lower-level space, built entirely from the foundation up. Because the basement did not previously have plumbing rough-ins for a bathroom, the concrete slab was carefully opened to allow for new drainage and supply lines to be installed. Waste lines and water supply connections were properly routed and aligned before the slab was restored. Structural & Mechanical Work Included: • Concrete breaking and trenching • Installation of new drain and water supply lines • Re-pouring and leveling of concrete base • Full bathroom framing from scratch • Exterior wall framing and spray foam insulation for thermal efficiency Spray foam insulation was applied along exterior foundation walls to improve energy performance and moisture control.
