6x6 Timber Retaining Wall with Tiered Garden & Stair Access

This project involved the construction of a structural 6x6 timber retaining wall system designed to create a raised garden elevation with integrated stair access. The landscape featured a natural soil height difference that required reinforcement and controlled retention. Solid 6x6 timbers were installed to form a durable retaining structure, stabilizing the grade while defining a clean garden boundary. Staircases were integrated on both sides of the structure, allowing smooth vertical transition between levels and improving accessibility. To elevate the final appearance, the retaining wall was finished with smart panel cladding, concealing the exposed post structure and delivering a refined, modern exterior finish. The transformation from the original condition to the completed structure dramatically enhanced both functionality and curb appeal. The result is a structurally sound and visually upgraded tiered garden system built for long-term durability and aesthetic balance.

Challenge

Stabilizing the existing soil elevation required precise placement and anchoring of 6x6 timbers to prevent long-term shifting. Integrating stair access on both sides demanded careful alignment to maintain structural integrity. Applying smart panel cladding required detailed finishing to conceal posts while preserving ventilation and durability.
