Modern Backyard Studio with Sliding Glass Door, Downtown Toronto

Downtown Toronto

Completed August 2026

A modern single-slope backyard studio at the far end of a long Downtown Toronto lot. We poured a concrete slab on a compacted gravel base, framed and sheathed the walls and roof, and finished the outside in white vertical panel siding with white trim around the openings. A black soffit with pot lights, black fascia, gutters and downspout, black-framed casement windows and a wide sliding glass door that faces the house complete the look. Power comes from the house through a 100 ft underground line to a panel inside, with outlets and a ceiling light wired in. The build took three weeks.

Scope

Concrete slab on a compacted gravel base, poured in a timber form; wall and roof framing and sheathing; single-slope roof with asphalt shingles; white vertical panel siding and trim; black soffit with pot lights, black fascia, gutters and downspout; black-framed casement windows and a sliding glass door; a 100 ft underground power line to an electrical panel, outlets and a ceiling light.

Challenge

The studio sits at the far end of a long, narrow downtown lot, so power had to come 100 ft underground from the house.

Result

A finished backyard studio with a wide sliding glass door facing the house, built in three weeks.
