Sheds built for how you’ll use them
Storage sheds
Garden, tool and bike sheds from about 6 × 8 ft up, with single or double doors, a ramp for the mower and windows where you want the light.
Backyard offices and studios
Insulated, with big windows or a sliding glass door, power, lighting and heat, so the space works all year round.
Workshops
Larger buildings with 8 ft walls, a roll-up door, a concrete slab floor and a sub-panel for tools.
Roofs and siding
Gable, lean-to, barn or flat roofs in asphalt shingles or metal, with vinyl, engineered wood, board-and-batten or cedar siding in your colours.
The right foundation
A gravel pad, a concrete slab, deck blocks or piers, or concrete footings 1.2 m deep, chosen for the building and your ground.
Porches, decks and lighting
A small deck or covered porch out front, pot lights in the soffit and a motion light over the door.

Site visit, by-law check and quote
We look at the spot, the ground and access, check the size, height and setbacks against your city’s by-law, and give you a written quote. When a permit is needed, we handle it.
Build
Foundation, framing, roof, siding and trim, doors and windows, and power when you want it, then a clean site. A typical backyard studio takes a few weeks.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a permit for a shed in Toronto?
In Toronto and Brampton, a storage shed under 15 m² (161 sq ft) usually doesn’t need a building permit, as long as it has no plumbing and isn’t attached to the house. Larger sheds usually do, and Brampton asks for a permit for other accessory buildings, such as cabanas, from 10 m². Zoning rules on height and placement still apply when no permit is needed, and electrical work needs an ESA permit. We check the rules for your address before we build.
How tall can a shed be, and how close to the fence?
It depends on the city. Brampton, for example, allows accessory buildings up to 3 m (9 ft 9 in) high, in the back yard only, at least 0.6 m (2 ft) from every lot line. Toronto and other GTA cities have their own limits, and corner lots often have extra rules. We confirm them for your lot and place the shed to meet them.
Can you run power to a shed or backyard office?
Yes. We run a line underground from the house to a panel in the building, then wire it for lights and outlets, or install a sub-panel for a workshop. Electrical work needs an ESA permit and inspection, which we arrange. On a recent backyard studio in Downtown Toronto, the line runs 100 ft underground from the house.
What foundation does a shed need?
Most storage sheds sit well on a compacted gravel pad, which drains and stays level. Workshops and heavy loads suit a concrete slab, uneven ground suits deck blocks or piers, and larger buildings that must not move go on concrete footings 1.2 m deep, below the frost line.
Can I design my shed online first?
Yes. Our free 3D shed designer lets you choose the size, roof, siding, doors and windows, add a porch, insulation and power, and place the shed in your own yard. Send it to us and we get your 3D view and a plan with the distances to your lot lines.
Do you take down the old shed?
Yes. We can remove and haul away an old shed as part of the job, so the new one goes in on a clean, level spot.
